What's New In The Senate
President Signs Johanna's Law into Law!
Dear Friends,
Thanks to all of you who worked so hard to obtain Congressional support for and passage of
Johanna's Law. In the closing hours of the 109th Congress, on December 8th and 9th,
Johanna's Law passed by unanimous consent in both the U.S. Senate and House.
Although it took awhile for the final text of the bill to reach President Bush's desk for
his signature, it got to The White House in early January --- and he signed Johanna's Law
into law on January 12, 2007.
Our next step is to secure the funding for Johanna's Law provided by the authorizing
legislation that the President signed. Stay tuned to this Website and those of other
groups that endorsed Johanna's Law (e.g. Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, National
Ovarian Cancer Coalition, and Conversations) for updates and "Action Steps"
needed in our effort to obtain full funding for this landmark legislation to improve early
detection of ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers.
Best wishes for a happy, healthy 2007 to you all!!!
With deepest gratitude for your efforts,
Sheryl Silver, founder
Johanna's Law Alliance for Women's Cancer Awareness

| ---Please Help. It Just Takes a
Few Minutes. When contacting your Senators, feel free to use or excerpt from
the sample Senate letter provided. If you can, take a few minutes to personalize the
letter. A sentence or two explaining any relevant personal experience and/or why you
believe Johannas Law is urgently needed can add to the impact of your letter. |
---Telephone Follow Up is Critical. Within 2-5 days of faxing or emailing your letter, please call
your Senators Washington, D.C. offices. If youve never done it, its
easier than you think and so rewarding when your Senators co-sponsor as a result of your
call!
--- For Tips on Calling Congress, Click here. The "Tips" page includes the Senate switchboard number, explains who to
speak with, the best way to introduce yourself, and talking points to highlight. It also
includes links to a summary of S.1172 and the list of organizations that have endorsed the
bill. You may want to fax or email these two items to your Senators Health L.A.s
(legislative assistants) after talking with them.
---If Your Senator is Already a Co-sponsor, You
Can Still Help. Please urge friends
and family in other states to call their Senators about co-sponsoring S.1172.
